Former Ontario premier Mike Harris will join Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP as a senior business adviser, the Bay Street law firm said on Monday.

Mr. Harris left politics 11 years ago after serving as the Premier of Ontario for seven years and as a long-time member of provincial parliament. He has held posts at Goodmans LLP and Cassels Brock & Blackwell.

Since leaving politics he has been a board member for such companies as Element Financial Corp. and Canaccord Financial Inc. He was also the chairman of the board of Magna Corp. for about a year during the controversial buyout of company founder Frank Stronach for about $865-million.

"Mike Harris is very well respected in the business community and together with his background in politics and government Mike will offer an unparalleled level of insight and experience to our clients," said Martin Denyes, Fasken Martineau's regional managing partner in Ontario, in a statement.
