The offices of National Bank Financial in Toronto.Charla Jones/The Globe and Mail

National Bank Financial is trimming its mining and mergers groups to reflect a slower business climate, letting go a half-dozen bankers.

The departures are at various levels, including one managing director, National Bank confirmed.

With year-end and bonus season upon the Canadian banks, they are adjusting their personnel. That's leading to a steady diet of tweaks and trims across Bay Street.

NBF has reshaped itself in recent years after acquiring boutique Wellington West Financial. It has elected to compete by positioning itself in a spot that attempts to straddle the gap between the large bank-owned dealers and the smaller boutiques.
