Energy analyst Chris Cox has left AltaCorp Capital Inc. to cover large-cap exploration and production companies at Raymond James in Calgary.

The addition of Mr. Cox helps Raymond James fill a big gap in oil and gas coverage that opened up in July when senior analysts Justin Bouchard and Kristopher Zack left to become co-heads of energy research for Desjardins Securities Inc.

An official with Raymond James was not immediately available to say if another analyst's appointment would be finalized.

Mr. Cox is due to start at Raymond James early next month.

His departure from AltaCorp comes at the end of a quarter in which four research associates went to other firms, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Several energy analysts either switched shops or left the capital markets business for corporate jobs in recent months, a period of weak activity in both oil-patch financing and mergers and acquisitions.
