TD looks to replicate oil success in mining

TD Securities Inc. has come a long way in Calgary.

By the bank's internal measures, it's now one of the best at winning any new business to be had in Canada's energy capital.

That's been key to the firm's strategy. Rather than spend all its time fighting to take relationships away from those who had them, instead look to ensure that any new clients that are looking for a bank choose TD.

TD is looking to build on that success with expansion in the other big sector of Canada's resource business, mining.

The firm is adding another banker in the industry, plucking Ron D'Ambrosio from Macquarie to be a managing director, and creating a precious metals trading team to create one more service for mining clients.
