Washington state study shows declining use among youth
Keeping cannabis out of the hands of underage youth was a stated policy goal in Canada as lawmakers crafted the Cannabis Act. Similar pronouncements were made in U.S. states ahead of their legalization bills. Now, data from the United States is beginning to show that legalization may be achieving the desired outcome.
A study out of Washington State, which legalized recreational marijuana in 2014, shows that marijuana use among non-working students fell in grades 8, 10 and 12 between 2010 and 2016. In fact, even among students who worked at least 11 hours a week at jobs outside the house, only those students in grade 12 showed an increase in usage. The study compared working and non-working students because working students are presumed to be more exposed to adults who consume cannabis and other substances.
A study published last October by the state of Colorado (which legalized recreational pot in 2013) largely showed flat usage stats among high-schoolers.

Fire & Flower unveils online sales platform
Edmonton-based retailer Fire & Flower Holdings Corp. said Monday it has launched its e-commerce platform to sell adult-use recreational cannabis to customers in the province of Saskatchewan and accessory products to consumers across Canada. In Saskatchewan, online ordering is complemented by provincially-approved delivery services. The e-commerce platform was developed by Fire & Flower’s digital product studio, HiFyre Inc., which was acquired by Fire & Flower in July, 2018.

Zenabis approved to process, sell cannabis oil
Zenabis Global Inc. announced Monday that it is now licensed to process and sell cannabis oil products in Canada. The license allows the company to sell oil produced at its Atholville, N.B. facility, where Zenabis was already processing oil.
Zenabis expects to market and sell cannabis oil products to its medical clients and to adult use consumers through supply and distribution agreements that Zenabis has in place with nine Canadian jurisdictions. The company said it expects to have its initial oil products available for sale in both the medical and adult use markets by early Q2, 2019.

Emerald Health appoints Rewak as VP, communications
Victoria-based licensed producer Emerald Health Therapeutics, Inc. said Monday that Allan Rewak has been appointed vice-president, communications and stakeholder relations, effective April 15.
Before joining Emerald, Mr. Rewak was the executive director at the Cannabis Council of Canada (C3), Canada’s national industry association for cannabis, cultivators and processors. Mr. Rewak also served as director of communications and stakeholder relations at Newstrike Resources, a partner at Pathway Group, and a consultant at Leonard Domino & Associates.
