Blue Jays place infielder Izturis on 15-day DL and recall shortstop Goins

The Toronto Blue Jays have recalled shortstop Ryan Goins from triple-A Buffalo and have placed infielder Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list.

Goins is batting .257 with six home runs and 46 RBIs in 111 games with Buffalo this season. The left-handed hitter is in his fifth season of professional baseball after being selected in the fourth round of the 2009 draft.

Izturis was placed on the DL retroactive to Aug. 21 with a left ankle sprain.

He has a .236 average with five home runs and 32 RBIs in 107 games with the Blue Jays this season.
