Jays place closer Santos on paternity list, recall left-hander Crawford

Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia and pitcher Sergio Santos (R) celebrate their win against the Boston Red Sox during the ninth inning of their MLB American League baseball game in Toronto April 11, 2012.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed closer Sergio Santos on the paternity list Friday and recalled left-hander Evan Crawford from double-A New Hampshire.

Santos flew to California on Wednesday after earning the save in Toronto's 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox to join his wife for the birth of their second son. With the Blue Jays having Thursday off, he was expected to rejoin the team in time for Friday's game against Baltimore.

Teams can place a player on the paternity list for a least one day and a maximum of three.
