It was the first full-squad workout for the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday and, naturally, the first medical concern also cropped up.

Following a brisk practice here at the Englebert Athletic Complex, Toronto manager John Farrell said relief pitcher Carlos Villanueva came out of his throwing session complaining of an issue with his right hand.

"The only thing we're waiting to hear back on, and we'll get a more complete report later, but Carlos Villanueva, he ended up having some coldness in his right hand," Farrell said. "Whether that means circulation issues – we're in the process of gathering more information on it. We'll have a more detailed report."

Farrell said that Villanueva lasted through the practice but afterward was sent out to get checked over by the local medical staff.

"He went through the drills but at the end of the day is when he felt a lack of circulation, almost a real cold temperature, in his right hand," Farrell said. "Again, I don't have enough at this point to determine what's going on there."

Villanueva was solid in his first season last year with the Blue Jays, going 6-4 with a 4.04 ERA in 33 games, including 13 starts.
