The Rochester Lancers of the Major Indoor Soccer League have offered former NBA All-Star Allan Iverson a contract.
In what is being viewed by some as simply a publicity stunt by the semi-professional team, Iverson would earn $20,000 (U.S.) per game with a bonus of $5,000 for every goal scored along with merchandise bonuses.
“Allen Iverson is one of the premier athletes of our time,” said Lancers vice president Rich Randall. “With his athleticism and competitive hunger, I think he can be a great fit with our team and fans as we make an important playoff push, while also driving interest to an exciting and growing sport.”
Iverson has yet to comment on the proposal.
If the offer is accepted the club also offered to host his friends and family through the duration of his stay.
The Lancers have just two games remaining in the regular season.
The 11-time NBA All-Star played high school football but little is known by anyone about his experience on a soccer field.
