The Winnipeg Blue Bombers named Paul LaPolice as their new head coach Friday.

LaPolice replaces Mike Kelly, who was fired in the off-season.

The Bombers posted a 7-11 record and missed the playoffs in Kelly's first and only season as the club's head coach.

LaPolice spent the past three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

He joined the Riders in 2007 earning a Grey Cup ring as the club's receivers coach before being promoted to offensive co-ordinator in 2008.

The Riders returned to the Grey Cup last year, losing a heart-breaking 28-27 decision to Montreal.

LaPolice spent two seasons with Winnipeg (2002, 2003) as the team's offensive co-ordinator and quarterbacks coach.

He began his CFL career in 2000 as the Toronto Argonauts running backs-receivers coach.
