The Toronto Argonauts are expected to add Calgary defensive co-ordinator Chris Jones to their staff, according to a report.
During a week in which the Argos are anticipated to announce Montreal Alouettes offensive co-ordinator Scott Milanovich as the team’s new head coach, the Boatmen are reportedly working to also hire Jones.
Jones is a well-respected coach within the CFL, known for being a strong scout of talent. He has been with the Stamps since 2007, and before that, he coached with the Als. In ten CFL seasons, Jones has never missed the playoffs.
Jones is also the Stamps’ Assistant Director of Player Personnel and Football Operations, the second in command under head coach and general manager John Hufnagel. Jones is reportedly going to be hired as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach in Toronto.
Reached Tuesday evening, Jim Barker, currently the Argos head coach and general manager, chose not to make any comments on the report.
Orlondo Steinauer is currently serving as the Argos’ defensive coordinator. Barker promoted Steinauer from his post as defensive backs coach mid-season after firing Chip Garber. Steinauer’s status remains to be seen.
