Dan Quinn says he's looking to build a defence that plays "fast and physical" and a balanced offence as the Atlanta Falcons coach.

The former Seattle defensive co-ordinator was introduced as the team's coach on Tuesday, only two days after the Seahawks' loss to New England in the Super Bowl.

Quinn says he has hired Kyle Shanahan as offensive co-ordinator and Richard Smith as defensive co-ordinator. Quinn says he'll play a prominent role on defence.

Defence was a big problem as the Falcons finished 6-10 in 2014 and 4-12 in 2013. The Falcons allowed the most total yards and yards passing in the league in 2014.

The 44-year-old Quinn helped Seattle reach back-to-back Super Bowls. Seattle beat Denver in last year's championship.
