The Edmonton Eskimos have signed free agent import defensive lineman Claude Wroten.

Wroten spent the 2011 regular season with the Toronto Argonauts.

In 18 games he had 35 defensive tackles, one pass knockdown, one forced fumble, and two interceptions for 24 yards.

Wroten played the 2011 post-season with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, playing in both the east semifinal and east final where he registered 10 tackles and one sack.

The Louisiana Native played his college football at LSU and was drafted in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams.

Wroten spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons with St. Louis.

"With the injury to Almondo Sewell in practice this week, we felt Claude was a young man who could come in and play immediately," Edmonton general manager Eric Tillman said Thursday in a statement.

"Even though he hasn't practiced with our club, we expect him to be in the lineup on Friday night," Tillman said.
