Gilbert gone as Marlies coach Add to ...

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday they will not renew the contract of Marlies head coach Greg Gilbert.

Marlies assistant coaches Joe Paterson and Jim Hughes have been given permission to pursue other opportunities.

"Greg has been a valuable and loyal member of our organization," said Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke. "We appreciate the dedication of the Marlies' coaching staff and we wish them well in their future endeavours."

The Marlies went 39-29-5-7 in the regular season, Gilbert's third with the team. They went on to lose in six games to the Manitoba Moose in the North Division semi-final.

Prior to joining the Marlies, Gilbert coached the Calgary Flames, the Worcester IceCats of the AHL, and the Mississauga IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League.
