A number of Canadians are off to good starts at the first stage of PGA Tour Q-School.

The Club at Irish Creek - Kannapolis, NC

Two-time Canadian amateur champion Cam Burke of New Hamburg, Ont. and Derek Gillespie of Oshawa, Ont. are tied for ninth after opening with a 3-under 68. Both had five birdies and two bogeys on the day to sit six strokes back of the leader Clint Jensen. Riley Wheeldon of Comox, B.C. is tied for 15th after shooting 69 thanks to a string of four straight birdies starting at No. 11.

Ryan Kings of Kitchener, Ont., Brad Revell of Kingston, Ont. and Canadian Tour winner Danny Sahl of Sherwood Park, Alta, all sit in a tie for 34th after shooting 71.

Michael Gligic of Burlington, Ont., and Christopher Ross of Dundas, Ont., are tied for 46th at 1-over par while Greg McAuley of Cloverdale, B.C., is tied for 55th after carding a 73.

Dayton Valley Golf Club - Dayton, NV

Vancouver's Richard T. Lee had seven birdies and two bogeys for an opening round 67. That leaves him in a tie for second, one back of the leader. Calgary's Ryan Yip had an eagle and four birdies to leave him tied for sixth, just two strokes back, after shooting 68.

Deerwood Golf Club - Kingwood, TX

Mike Mezei of Lethbridge, Alta. overcame back-to-back bogeys at the start of his round with an eagle and a birdie on two of his final three holes for an opening round 71 which leaves him in a tie for fifth. Andrew Parr of London, Ont., is tied for 11th after a round of 73 while Billy Walsh of Concord, Ont., struggled with five bogeys over a six hole stretch on his front nine for an opening round 75 to leave him tied for 27th.

Stonebridge Ranch Golf & Country Club - McKinney, TX

Ted Brown of Peterborough, Ont., had an eagle and two birdies but five bogeys and a double bogey contributed to a round of 75, leaving him in a tie for 33rd.

Grasslands Golf & Country Club - Lakeland, FL

Marc Bussieres of Gatineau, Que., opened with a 3-over 75 to leave him tied for 60th.
