The NHL has handed out its first disciplinary measures of the shortened 2013 season.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn has been suspended for one game, the league announced Wednesday, for charging Devils defenceman Anton Volchenkov.

The incident took place in New Jersey on Tuesday night in the second period when Schenn came off the bench and launched into Volchenkov's head near the corner boards. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Schenn will forfeit $4,702.70 of salary, with the money going to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
