Stephen Bronfman says he has no plans to bring NHL hockey back to Quebec City or get involved in any other professional sports ventures for that matter.

Bronfman made the comments Friday after announcing that former Montreal Canadiens president Pierre Boivin will be the new president and chief executive officer of his investment firm, Claridge Inc.

Despite Boivin's past sports involvement, Bronfman nixed any notion of getting involved in professional sports - particularly in Quebec City.

"As far as the Nordiques go, I'm a Montrealer, and Pierre worked 12 years with the Canadiens," Bronfman told The Canadian Press at his Montreal offices.

"I think it's difficult to go elsewhere when you have that tattooed on your heart."

Boivin is leaving his job as president of the Canadiens next week after 12 years at the helm.

He'll start his job at Claridge in September where he'll have a mandate to develop the current portfolio and oversee future acquisitions by the company.

When Boivin takes over, Bronfman will step down as president and CEO to take on a new role as chairman.

Boivin said in the months leading up to the announcement, acquiring a professional sports team didn't come up once.

Bronfman was mentioned as possible buyer before the Canadiens were eventually sold to a group headed by the Molson family.

His father Charles Bronfman, who founded Montreal-based Claridge in 1987, was instrumental in bringing baseball to Montreal and owned the Expos baseball club from 1968 to 1990.
