Calgary Flames defenceman Mark Giordano suffered a hamstring injury in the Nov. 29 game against the Nashville Predators and was placed on the injured list, meaning he can't return for at least a week.

It's a big hit for the Flames, since Giordano was second on the team in average ice time per game and skated in all situations. Defenceman Cory Sarich was back in the lineup after being a healthy scratch the previous four games and nine of 11 outings.

The Flames also summoned defenceman Joe Piskula to give them seven healthy defenceman, which is necessary with a stretch of three games in four nights.
