Montreal Canadiens Tomas Kaberle stretchesPaul Chiasson/The Canadian Press

Stickhandling with a weighted puck isn't new.

But flinging passes and noodling around with a five-pound free weight? That just might be.

The Montreal Canadiens' Tomas Kaberle hasn't played in a couple of weeks, and is evidently intent on keeping his skills sharp.

So there he was at the conclusion of the Habs' pre-game skate on Monday, throwing passes at rookie Alex Galchenyuk with a repurposed plate from the weight room.

As you might expect from NHLers, they could fling it pretty crisply – while still managing not to break their graphite sticks.

Galchenyuk learned the hard way that it's no simple matter to slide a weight between your skates and fish it out on the backhand.

Although if anyone has the hands to do it, he does.
