Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier makes a save against the St. Louis Blues as Maple Leafs' Roman Polak (46) defends during first period NHL action in Toronto on Saturday March 7, 2015.The Canadian Press

Down goes another one.

A day after the Toronto Maple Leafs announced veteran defenceman Stephane Robidas would be shut down for the season, teammate Roman Polak has been given a similar fate.

The big Czech defender has battled a hernia issue much of the year, and with the Leafs long since out of the playoff race, he will have the needed surgery in the near future.

The Leafs recalled Petter Granberg on an emergency basis to fill in.

Even with captain Dion Phaneuf back in the fold, Toronto's blueline is looking rather spare.

In addition to Morgan Rielly and Jake Gardiner, the remaining defence corps includes Eric Brewer, Tim Erixon and now Granberg.

Only Granberg is a right-hand shot.

The Leafs had already lost Cody Franson and Korbinian Holzer to trades prior to the deadline last week.
