Claude Loiselle, the former assistant general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, will soon be named to the same position with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He is currently a special assignment scout with the Leafs.

Leafs president and GM Brian Burke confirmed the hiring on Saturday. Loiselle will fill the vacancy created in the front office when Jeff Jackson resigned as assistant GM a few months ago.

Loiselle, who turned 47 on Saturday, spent 13 seasons as a player in the NHL. In addition to being a scout and hockey executive, the Ottawa native also spent several years working for the NHL in its hockey operations department.
