The Toronto Maple Leafs signed centre Daniel Winnik to a $1.3-million, one-year contract on Monday.

He had a career-high 30 points (six goals, 24 assists) and 23 penalty minutes in 76 games for the Anaheim Ducks last season. Winnik, 29, also had one assist and two penalty minutes in nine playoff games.

The six-foot-two 207-pound Toronto native has 150 career points (49-101) with the Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks and Phoenix Coyotes.

Winnik was drafted by the Coyotes in the ninth round (No. 265 overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
