Belarus' Andrei Stas (C) fights for puck with Canada's Marc Methot (L) and goalkeeper Cam Ward during their 2012 IIHF men's ice hockey World Championship game in Helsinki May 15, 2012.

Canadian defenceman Marc Methot will sit out the quarter-finals after being suspended one game at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.

He was ejected late in Tuesday's victory over Belarus after slamming Yevgeni Kovyrshin into the boards.

The IIHF's disciplinary panel called the incident "reckless and dangerous" in announcing the one-game suspension.

Methot will sit out Thursday's game against Slovakia at Hartwall Arena and is eligible to return if Canada moves on to the semifinals.

Ryan Murray will take his spot in the lineup.
