Mikhail Grabovski

Toronto Maple Leafs centre Mikhail Grabovski has been named the NHL's first star of the week for the three-day stretch prior to the all-star break.

Grabovski had a league-leading five points (one goal, four assists) in Toronto's consecutive wins over the New York Islanders.

The 27-year-old had an assist in the Maple Leafs' 3-0 home win against the Isles on Jan. 23 before adding a goal and three assists in a 4-3 overtime victory a day later.

Second star honours went to Nashville's Pekka Rinne. The Predators goaltender extended his personal win streak to nine games with two victories. The 29-year-old had a 1.00 goals-against average and .961 save percentage in wins over Columbus and Chicago.

The third star was Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson. The 39-year-old, who is coming of the weekend all-star break where he served as captain of one of the two teams, had two goals in two games for Ottawa.

Alfredsson also got a standing ovation from his home crowd at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa after scoring two goals 1:31 apart in the second period of Sunday's all-star game to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead.

Team Alfredsson ended up losing to Team Chara 12-9.
