The Monster is heading to Motown.

Jonas Gustavsson signed a US$3-million, two-year contract after hitting the free-agent market Sunday.

He'll serve as the backup to No. 1 goaltender Jimmy Howard.

Gustavsson spent the first three seasons of his NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, putting up a 17-17-4 record last year with a .902 save percentage and 2.92 goals-against average.

The Swede earned a small raise after making $1.4-million in Toronto last season.
