Mike Morrison stopped 39 of 41 shots as the Kingston Frontenacs defeated the visiting Kitchener Rangers 3-2 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Morrison came up big with 14 saves in the final period and he earned the game's first star for his effort.

"In the last three games in the third period the pucks kind of got away from us and it's good to see the guys rebound," said Morrison. "The guys got the pucks to the outside which makes it easy.

"That was the difference tonight, the guys battling hard in front of me."

Henri Ikonen scored twice for the Frontenacs (5-3-0), who have now won back-to-back games, and Trevor Morbeck added what turned out to be the game winner.

Matt Puempel and Eric Ming scored for the Rangers (3-3-1), who have now lost three straight contests.

Franky Palazzese, who played for Kingston from 2009 to 2011, stopped 26 shots in a losing effort for Kitchener.

"Obviously it doesn't feel good," said Palazzese. "You want to come in against your old team and you want to beat them. Some tough breaks and a one-goal loss, that's the way it goes."

Kingston went 1-for-6 on the power play while Kitchener failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Belleville 2, Brampton 0; Guelph 6, Erie 1; London 4, Plymouth 1; Mississauga 3, Ottawa 2; Barrie 4, Oshawa 3 (SO); Saginaw 6, Sudbury 1.

At Kingston, Ont., after a scoreless first period, Ikonen put the Frontenacs on the board 5:04 into the second period.

Puempel responded for Kitchener at 8:54, but Ikonen scored his second of the game at 13:30, while on the power play, to give Kingston a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
