Dallas forward Antoine Roussel cross-checks Adam McQuaid in the throat
The NHL has suspended Dallas Stars forward Antoine Roussel two games for his cross-check to the head of Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid on Tuesday night.
According to the NHL's Department of Player Safety, Roussel and McQuaid came together along the boards early in the first period with Roussel managing to avoid what was deemed an attempted open-ice check by the Bruins defenceman. After the two players glared at each other, McQuaid dropped his gloves in an apparent attempt to start a fight. Roussel is seen driving his stick into the neck of McQuaid. Roussel was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct as a result of his actions.
The league noted Roussel's actions were neither reflexive nor defensive in announcing the suspension on Thursday. It also noted that Roussel was a repeat offender, having been previously fined for sucker punching San Jose defenseman Justin Braun last November.
