Pierre-Cedric Labrie was the overtime hero as the Norfolk Admirals edged the St. John's IceCaps 1-0 on Monday in Game 3 of their American Hockey League playoff series.
Norfolk now leads the best-of-seven Eastern Conference final 3-0 and can sweep the series with a win on Tuesday.
Dustin Tokarski stopped all 25 shots he faced in the Admirals' net.
Eddie Pasquale made 26 saves for St. John's.
The goal was a result of a turnover by Arturs Kulda at the Admirals' blue-line. Kulda had a shot blocked that was then passed to Labrie.
Labrie skated the length of the ice to score just 1:37 into the extra period.
The IceCaps found themselves in penalty trouble early. Pasquale made a number of clutch saves to keep St. John's in the game.
The Admirals lost Scott Jackson just 23 seconds into the second period after blocking a shot with his face. Blood streamed onto the ice, but Jackson was still conscious and was helped off the ice.
Norfolk got more bad news on the injury front about five minutes later as Alexandre Picard was hit head-first into the boards. There was no penalty assessed on the play, and Picard returned by the 10 minutes mark.
Pasquale made a number of clutch saves for the IceCaps, with the crowd chanting "Eddie!" on several occasions.
Pasquale made back-to-back saves in the dying seconds of the third period to push the game to overtime.
St. John's went 0-for-6 on the man advantage while Norfolk was 0-for-7.
