Toronto Maple Leafs forwards William Nylander and Frederik Gauthier celebrate a win over the Calgary Flames at the Air Canada Centre.John E. Sokolowski

The biggest night of William Nylander's young career propelled the Maple Leafs to another victory.

Nylander had the first three-point game of his NHL career, scoring his fourth NHL goal and adding two assists in a 5-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Monday night. The performance came two days after the 19-year-old registered his first career multi-point effort in a win over Buffalo.

Nylander has two goals and five points in his last two games and attempted 12 shots in a confident showing against Calgary.

P.A. Parenteau, Zach Hyman, Colin Greening and Josh Leivo also scored for the Leafs (26-35-11), who have won four of their past five games and five of their past seven outings. Former Leafs Matt Stajan and Joe Colborne scored for Calgary (31-36-6).

Jonathan Bernier made 23 saves to best Jonas Hiller, who gave up three goals on 24 shots.

The Leafs controlled play early opposite a Flames team that played and won for the fifth time in eight games Sunday night in Montreal. Calgary managed only three shots in a opening frame that saw Parenteau open the scoring with his 18th goal of the year.

Hiller, who was making his first appearance since Mar. 3, misplayed a puck near his crease that was picked off by Nylander, who promptly found his senior teammate Parenteau in front of the net.

Playing in only his second career NHL game, 20-year-old Frederik Gauthier had a fine chance to notch his first NHL goal a few minutes earlier. Gauthier, who made his NHL debut on Saturday against Buffalo, wrung a shot off the crossbar from a spot in left face-off circle.

T.J. Brodie had the Flames' lone chance in a quiet first frame, his attempt on goal snared by the glove of Bernier.

Calgary turned the tables with a flood of shots and puck possession in the second, held briefly at bay by Bernier. The 27-year-old came up with a number of saves, including a pair on Colborne during a lengthy Flames five-on-three advantage.

Stajan eventually evened the score at one with his second goal in three games, a short-handed marker that was whipped under the bar past Bernier.

It was the first of three second-period goals for the two clubs, with Calgary outshooting Toronto 15-8.

Hyman put the Leafs back in front four minutes after the goal from Stajan, redirecting a Nylander shot for his fourth goal in 12 NHL games. He was matched three minutes after that by Colborne, who has already set a new career-highs in goals (16) and points (33). Jostling for position in front, the 26-year-old saw Mark Giordano's shot ping off his right leg and into the net.

Nylander gave the Leafs their third and final lead moments into the third period, whistling a Jake Gardiner one-time pass beyond Hiller with Hyman parked in front.

Greening and Leivo added empty-netters.

Monday was the fourth game of six-game homestand for the Leafs (63 points), who trail Winnipeg by one point for 29th place overall and an exit from the NHL basement.
