Sidney Crosby is expected to have surgery on his right wrist, according to a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Citing unnamed sources, the report claims Crosby was hampered by the wrist ailment throughout the playoffs. The Penguins forward was limited to just one goal and eight assists in 13 playoff games before being eliminated by the New York Rangers in the second round.

The surgical procedure is Crosby's latest option after therapy failed to fix the problem but according to the report, the surgery "is not major".

Crosby is expected to be fully recovered in time for the start of the upcoming season.

Crosby captured the NHL scoring title this past season and was named the NHL MVP at the season ending awards ceremony.
