The Edmonton Oilers re-signed centre Sam Gagner to a two-year contract extension Sunday.

The 21-year-old scored 15 goals and added 26 assists in 68 games last season.

"Sam is a key part of our organization moving forward," Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini said in a statement. "We are looking forward to him taking on a larger role with our club."

Gagner was drafted sixth overall by Edmonton in 2007.

The five-foot-11, 191-pound native of London, Ont., has 44 goals and 87 assists in three NHL seasons.
