Tyler Seguin gave Toronto Maple Leafs fans a taste of what could have been.

Seguin, who the Bruins drafted second overall with one of the picks acquired from Toronto in the Phil Kessel trade, had his first career hat trick Saturday to lead Boston in 7-0 drubbing against the Leafs.

The native of nearby Brampton, Ont., shined while Kessell struggled against his former team, registering just two shots.

"Segs has been playing great and obviously every time you play in your hometown you want to step up and have a big game," Lucic said. "It's a big moment in any hockey player's career to get your first hat trick, and it's great for him to get it here in Toronto, on a team he was supposed to be on if it wasn't for that trade."

Despite being at opposite ends of the Eastern Conference standings, with the upstart Leafs atop the East and Boston in the basement, it was the Bruins carrying the play for most of the night.

It was the Bruins' second straight win over the Leafs after a 6-2 victory in Boston more than two weeks ago.

Despite growing up a Leafs fan, Seguin says he doesn't muse about what could have been had Toronto drafted him.

"To be honest with you, I don't really think about that too much," Seguin said. "Obviously, I was a Leafs fan growing up, so to get a hat trick against them is pretty cool. I'm going to remember this one for while, being against the Leafs."

Boston's 13 goals in their two games against the Leafs is just one short of how many they had against Toronto in six games last season.

The Bruins now have back-to-back wins for the first time this season after beating Ottawa on Tuesday. Boston started the season 3-7-0 in October.

"Let's put that in the rearview mirror," goalie Tim Thomas said. "We're 2-0 in November, so that's a good start to the month and we've got to build on this ... and start letting the wins add up.

"We were just focusing on putting October behind us and getting November off to a great start."

Seguin now has seven goals and 14 points on the season to lead the Bruins in scoring. Head coach Claude Julien said the 19-year-old has taken his game to another level in his sophomore season.

"That's just called experience," Julien said. "You got to remember, it's a huge step for an 18-year-old to come into the league and go from playing against boys to men. He got better as the season went on last year, but this year he's a confident player.

"I never doubted his skill level, it was just about him understanding the game here. He's arguably been our best player since the start of the season."

After playing most of last season on the third-line, when he wasn't a healthy scratch, Seguin has carried the Bruins offence and is getting top-six minutes this year.

"It just comes from experience," Seguin said. "I had a few tastes of it last year, here and there. This year, any opportunity I got I really wanted to take advantage of it."
