The Chicago Blackhawks will face the Washington Capitals in next season's Winter Classic, multiple league sources have told The Canadian Press.

The Blackhawks will be playing in their third outdoor game and second Winter Classic. They hosted the New Year's Day event in 2009 at Wrigley Field and then a Stadium Series game at Soldier Field last season.

The 2015 event is set to take place at Nationals Park, although an official location announcement has not been made. Chicago will be announced as the Capitals' opponent when the 2014-15 NHL schedule is released this weekend.

Washington is hosting the event for the first time. The Capitals visited Pittsburgh in the 2011 Winter Classic at Heinz Field.

According to reports, the NHL will only have two outdoor games in 2014-15 after six in 2013-14. Those reports also indicate the second outdoor game will take place in California's Bay Area, either at AT&T Park or the new Levi's Stadium.
