P.K. Subban scored on a power play 4:09 into overtime to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night in the last game for both teams before the all-star break.
Alex Galchenyuk also scored for Montreal (29-13-3), which was coming off a win Saturday against the New York Islanders.
Mike Ribeiro scored for Nashville (30-10-5), which failed to win following a loss for the first time in 14 occasions this season. They were beaten 5-2 by Detroit on Saturday.
Carey Price was back in the Montreal net after missing two games with an upper-body ailment and had to be sharp as Mike Fisher broke in alone early. The Predators outshot Montreal 14-4 in the scoreless opening period and had the first 11 shots of the second. Final shots were 37-27 for Nashville.
The Predators scored on their 26th shot at 12:10 just after Ribeiro missed an open side after a perfect feed from Filip Forsberg. Price lost his stick on the play, and was beaten by a point shot from Seth Jones that Ribeiro deflected in front of the net.
Montreal tied it at 2:02 of the third when Subban, a moment after hitting a goalpost, fed Galchenyuk for a re-direct from the edge of the crease past Carter Hutton on a power play.
The Canadiens got a break midway through the second when the officials called Andrei Markov for high-sticking, only to rule there was no penalty after a replay on the scoreboard showed Olli Jokinen was hit above the left eye by a puck, not a stick.
Craig Smith was sent off for tripping in overtime, and Subban ended it with a blast from the point for his 11th goal of the season. It was Montreal's seventh power-play goal in its last four games.
Notes: By returning to play, Price signalled he will be ready to play at the all-star game. . . Ribeiro, who began his NHL career in Montreal, has 12 points in 10 games against the Canadiens. . .
