David Pastrnak scored in overtime as the Czech Republic edged Denmark 4-3 Monday at the world junior hockey championship.
The Czechs (1-2, two points) earned their first two points of the tournament with the overtime win to move into fourth place in Group B.
Denmark (0-3, two points) suffered heartache again with its second extra-time loss in three games. The last-place Danes opened the tournament with a 3-2 shootout loss to Russia.
Pastrnak and Jan Stencel, who set up the winning goal, led the Czech Republic with a goal and two assists apiece.
"It was a great pass, but the ice was bad and it bounced," Pastrnak said of the winning goal. "It was a lucky bounce for me, but I think we deserved the luck. We played a good game all the way."
Jan Kostalek and Dominik Kubalik, who tied the game with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, also scored for the Czechs.
Mads Eller, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Mathias Asperup scored for Denmark.
Denmark earned a point despite being outshot 48-14 by the Czech Republic.
Georg Sorensen was outstanding in the Danish goal with 44 saves.
Czech goaltender Vitek Vanecek stopped 11 shots.
