Olympic bobsled champion Heather Moyse is adding another chapter to her diverse sports resume.

The 34-year-old from Summerside, P.E.I., who is now based in Toronto, has been named to the Canadian women's team for next month's Rugby World Cup Sevens.

Moyse is no stranger to rugby. She led or shared the lead in try-scoring the last two World Cups in the 15-man version of the game.

She made her debut in the IRB Women's Sevens World Series earlier this month in Amsterdam.

"She is in the one percentile of athletically gifted people and I saw enough glimpses of the X-factor that she brings to warrant her selection to the World Cup," coach John Tait said in a statement Wednesday. "She is obviously a fierce competitor and is getting better every day with her understanding of her position and what her role within our team is."

Moyse's return to the team was delayed as she recovered from hip surgery.

The multi-talented athlete won 2010 Olympic bobsled gold with Kaillie Humphries. She subsequently took up track cycling, in part triggered by her rehab from an ankle injury suffered at the 2010 Rugby World Cup.

The Canadian squad also features Edmonton's Jen Kish, named the MVP at the recent event in Amsterdam. Winnipeg's Mandy Marchak is also expected to play a key role.

Bianca Farrella returns to the team, showing with her play in Amsterdam that she had recovered from a broken hand and pulled hamstring.

Canada finished third in the inaugural Women's World Series, with a mixed bag of results. The Canadians placed sixth in Dubai, seventh in Houston, third in Guangzhou, China, and second in Amsterdam.

The Rugby World Cup Sevens runs June 28—30 in Moscow. Canada has been drawn in Pool A with New Zealand, the Netherlands and Tunisia.

The 2009 event was the first Rugby World Cup sevens to feature a women's event. Canada lost to New Zealand in the Cup quarter-finals and finished runner-up to England in the consolation Plate event.

Marchak, Brittany Waters and Kelly Russell are veterans of the 2009 event.
