Canada won medals in both men's and women's relays on Sunday at a World Cup of short-track speed skating event.

The men's team of Michael Gilday, Charles Hamelin, Francois Hamelin and Olivier Jean took gold in the 5,000-metre relay in six minutes 54.582 seconds. The Canadians beat out the United States (6:55.200) and Great Britain (6:55.720).

On the women's side, the Canadian team of Jessica Gregg, Valerie Maltais, Marianne St-Gelais and Jessica Hewitt won bronze in the 3,000-metre relay with a time of 4:13.341. South Korea won the race (4:11.764), while China placed second (4:12.294).

Jean had the strongest performance of any individual Canadian skater. The Lachenaie, Que., native finished in 1:28.186, good for fourth in the 1,000-metre event.

China's Dajing Wu (1:27.662) dominated the race, earning his second podium finish of the weekend. Russia's Victor An (1:27.683) earned silver and South Korea's Se Yeong Park was third (1:27.773).

Charles Hamelin of Levis, Que., took sixth place while Charle Cournoyer of Boucherville, Que., finished 14th.

The South Korean team swept the podium in the women's 1000-metre race. Suk Hee Shim took gold in 1:30.546, followed by Seung-Hi Park (1:30.653) and Alang Kim (1:30.748).

Maltais, from La Baie, Que., finished sixth, Hewitt of Kamloops, B.C., was 14th and Edmonton's Gregg placed 33rd.
