I'm very excited to be writing for you all this week! It's my first time playing the main draw at the Rogers Cup, and I'm also very happy to say I made it in by my own ranking. So hopefully I will provide some entertaining matches this week. My first match will be Monday night against Ekaterina Makarova of Russia. I've played her twice in my career so I know a little bit about her game style and what to expect.

On Sunday I had two practices to get myself into a rhythm and feel good about my game. I played a lot of points just to get into the mindset of match play, too. My first hit was with Olga Govortsova of Belarus, and later in the day I played with my fellow Canadian Eugénie Bouchard. For those of you who aren't familiar yet with Eugenie, she is definitely one to watch in the near future! She got wild card into the tournament, along with Stéphanie Dubois and Aleksandra Wozniak.

Also, a little fact about me is that I was born in Toronto. So it's really great to be going back to my birthplace. We left the Beaches and made our way to Vancouver when I was very young. It's pretty crazy to think my parents moved across the country with two children under the age of two. My father is also here with me, so we're hoping to visit the old houses that we lived in.

I've heard also happening in Toronto at the moment is the walk around the edge of the CN Tower. I was thinking that would be an awesome thing to try while I'm here since I have never been to the Tower. But on the other hand, maybe I should wait until the tournament is over until I become a daredevil for the day! How would I be able to provide more diary entries before the end of the tournament if I make a slight mistake at 1,815 feet in the air?

I want to express that I am very pleased to be writing for you all this week and hopefully I'll be able to give you some insight from behind the scenes of the WTA Tour! I would love it if you also come out and watch me and all the other players this week at the Rexall Centre and support your Canadians!

Until next time,

Rebecca
