Mark Oldershaw of Burlington, Ont., won gold Friday in the men's C-1 1,000-metre at the London Canoe Sprint Invitational being held on the Olympic course ahead of the 2012 Summer Games.
Oldershaw, who took fifth at the world championships to earn Canada an Olympic spot in the event, clocked three minutes 51.013 seconds for the victory. Ben Russell of Dartmouth, N.S., was seventh in the C final.
World champion Adam van Koevderden of Oakville, Ont., also made the podium after winning silver in the K-1 1,000.
Van Koeverden was in a close battle with Max Hoof of Germany, who prevailed in 3:26.61, just 0.44 seconds ahead of the Canadian triple Olympic medallist. Angus Mortimer of Ottawa was fifth in the B final.
