Rebecca Marino advanced to the second round of the $220,000 WTA Bell Challenge tennis tournament with a two-set victory over fellow Canadian Stephanie Dubois on Monday.



Vancouver's Marino, the tournament's fourth seed, fired 14 aces in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Dubois that took one hour 16 minutes.



Dubois, from Laval, Que., was looking for her second tournament win in her home province this year. She won the Granby Challenger in July.



Later Monday, Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands defeated Marie-Eve Pelletier of Repentigny, Que., 7-6 (1), 6-3.



In other matches, seventh seed Irina Falconi beat fellow American Alison Riske 6-3, 6-3; Hungary's Melinda Czink defeated Germany's Kathrin Woerle 6-4, 1-6, 6-3; and Heather Watson of Great Britain downed Luxembourg's Anne Kremer 6-2, 6-4.
