Bianca Farella and Ghislaine Landry scored late tries to lead Canada past France 15-5 on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the women's rugby sevens Olympic tournament.
Kayla Moleschi tied if 5-5 for Canada in the first half after France's Jade Le Pesq opened the scoring.
Canada will face Australia, the tournament's No. 1 seed, on Monday in the semifinal.
Canada secured its spot in the quarter-finals with routs of Japan and Brazil on Day 1, outscoring its opponents by a combined 83-0.
Canada is seeded third in the Olympic field behind Australia and No. 2 New Zealand.
The Canadians are favoured for a medal in Rio after capturing gold at last summer's Pan American Games and finishing third on the world circuit this season.
Women's rugby is making its Olympic debut, while men's rugby returns for the first time since 1924 when the U.S. won the 15-a-side tournament.
