Canada improves to 2-0 with round-robin curling victory over Sweden

Canada's skip Jennifer Jones delivers the stone in their women's curling round robin game against Sweden at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games in the Ice Cube Curling Center February 11, 2014.

Skip Jennifer Jones curled a perfect game on Tuesday as Canada remained undefeated in round-robin play after a 9-3 victory in eight ends over Sweden in the women's curling tournament at the Sochi Winter Games.

The Canadians got on the board first with two in the second end, and followed that with two more apiece in the fourth and sixth ends. Jones sealed the victory with three in the eighth, never missing a shot.

"I never look at the stats, but I felt like we played really well as a team today," said Jones. "The girls just left me some makeable shots and I made them."

Margaretha Sigfridsson and her Swedish rink (1-1) took singles in the third, fifth, and seventh ends.

The Canadian rink was pleased its perfect record two days into the tournament.

"It's a great start against two really strong teams and I think we'll be seeing them again," said third Kaitlyn Lawes. "They're great teams and it's a long week so you never know, we'll probably end up seeing them at the end of the week."

Lawes thinks her skip's success on the ice comes from Jones's ability to focus.

"Yeah, Jenn's pretty good," said Lawes. "She just had that fire in her eyes, she was going after it all."

Like Canada, Switzerland and Russia are 2-0. The Swiss beat Denmark 7-6 and the Russians defeated the United States 9-6 for the Americans' second straight loss.

South Korea defeated Japan 12-7 in the other morning game. There are four games in the evening, when Canada has a bye.
