Dave McKay to lead men's freestyle Olympic wrestling team

Wrestling Canada has found its coach.

Dave McKay was named Tuesday as the head coach of the men's Olympic freestyle team just five months prior to the start of the London Summer Games.

McKay was the freestyle coach at the 2008 Olympics and ctutored Daniel Igali to gold medals at the 1999 world championships and 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Wrestling Canada had recently advertised the head coaching position due to budget restraints that prevented the hiring of a fulltime coach even in an Olympic year. McKay, a former Olympic wrestler, will coordinate the men's program while focusing on athletes who have been targeted by Own The Podium for strong performances.

Canada has qualified five men for London and four women, including 2008 gold medalist Carol Huynh and silver medalist Tonya Verbeek.
