WHAT'S HAPPENING TODAY (ALL TIMES EST)

Pole vault

Canada's Shawn Barber, the reigning world champion, had his eyes set on the podium in his Olympic debut but was eliminated early. Weather conditions and technical difficulties caused delays throughout the competition.

Steeplechase

Geneviève Lalonde of Moncton, N.B., finished 16th in the women's 3,000-metre steeplechase final with a time of 9:41.88. Lalonde broke the Canadian record in her qualifying heat to reach the final. It's the second time she's beaten the Canadian record this year. Ethiopia's Etenesh Diro, famous for finishing her heat this week with only one shoe, placed 15th.

Canoe

One of Canada's most decorated Olympic athletes Adam van Koeverden failed to advance in the men's single 1,000-metre finals today, after finishing the semis with a time of 3:36.2 . The kayaker from Oakville, Ont., has four Olympic medals to his credit, including a gold in the 500 metres from the 2004 Athens Games. He won the silver in the 1,000 at the 2012 London Olympics.
