Canada got more hardware at the track at the men’s 4x100-metre relay, winning a bronze medal after the American team was disqualified. Star sprinter Andre De Grasse, along with Brendon Rodney, Aaron Brown and Akeem Haynes, finished at 37.64.

The women’s team placed seventh in their 4x100-metre relay with a time of 43.15.

The women’s 4x400-metre relay team qualified for the finals with the fifth fastest time in the heats, 3:24.94. Kelsie Ahbe failed to medal at the pole vault final, finishing with a height of 4.50 metres.


Race walking

Canada’s Evan Dunfee, who had originally won bronze in the 50-km race walk on an appeal, has had his medal stripped after a counter protest from Japan.

Japan’s Hirooki Arai originally finished third but was disqualified for elbowing Dunfee in the final minutes of the race. Hirooki then filed his own protest and won to regain the medal.

Soccer

Canada claimed its second consecutive bronze medal with a 2-1 victory over the host Brazil. Goals by teenager Deanne Rose and superstar Christine Sinclair lifted Canada onto the medal podium.

Equestrian

Canada won bronze in the individual jumping event, its third bronze of the day. Eric Lamaze, riding Fine Lady 5, won third in the jump-off final, finishing behind Peder Fredricson of Sweden and Nick Skelton of Great Britain. The Schomberg, Ont., rider and his brown mare knocked down one rail — the only one they missed in the entire Olympic competition — to finish third in a jump-off.

Canoe Kayaking

The Canadian K-4 women's team made it into the finals of the 500-metreMark de Jonge of Halifax squeaked into the finals in his quest for gold in the men's 200-metre single kayak event.
