Jared Cowan, seen battling Tampa Bay forward Brandon Bochenski for a loose puck during preseason game Monday night, has been returned to the Spokane Chiefs by the Senators.

The Ottawa Senators returned defenceman Jared Cowen to the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old Saskatoon native was selected by the Senators with the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NHL entry draft.

Cowen did not record a point and had four penalty minutes in two pre-season games with Ottawa. It was his first game action since suffering a knee injury last January.
