Toronto FC has acquired speedy Ghana forward/winger Dominic Oduro from the Columbus Crew in exchange for Spanish winger Alvaro Rey.

The 28-year-old Oduro has 46 goals in 228 MLS appearances, including 139 starts. He is goalless in 11 games (six starts) this season.

A colourful character, Oduro earned mention on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" after a 2013 goal celebration against Chicago that saw him take a bite of pizza after being passed a slice by a waiting accomplice. Oduro then gave the rest of the pizza to a fan in the stands.

Oduro also showcased his love for pizza by having the design of a slice shaved into his hair, one of many distinctive hairstyles he has tried.

Prior to Columbus, he played for Chicago, Dallas, Houston and New York.

"To my new team, Toronto hope to help the team move forward. Thanks for everyones love and support," the Ghanaian tweeted Friday.

Another tweet read: "Wanna thank the Crew organization for the opportunity they gave me to play for them. It was blast but in the end guess it didn't work out."

The 24-year-old Rey has one goal in 20 appearances for Toronto. He has made six starts, with one substitute appearance, this season but has been slowed by injury and fallen behind Jonathan Osorio on the left side on depth chart.

"Dominic is a player that we have had our eye on for quite some time, and we are pleased to finalize this deal and bring him to Toronto FC," said team general manager Tim Bezbatchenko in a statement. "He is a player that has a tremendous amount of speed, and adds a lot to a team's attack.

"We'd also like to thank Alvaro for his contributions to Toronto FC and wish him well in his future endeavours."

Prior to joining the Toronto, Rey scored three goals in 28 appearances for Spanish side Xerez.

"Alvaro is a technically gifted player that we are excited to welcome to Columbus," Crew sporting director and head coach Gregg Berhalter said in a statement. "This agreement provides us with a player that we believe can be successful in our system of play through dynamic one-versus-one play and the ability to maintain possession in tight spaces."
