Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore injures his hamstring after a missed penalty kick as Vancouver Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted tends to him at BMO Field.Tom Szczerbowski

Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore will be out six to eight weeks with a hamstring injury.

The U.S. international was hurt Saturday night taking a penalty in a 4-3 MLS loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Altidore has a history of hamstring injuries and this one looks to keep him from competing at next month's Copa America with the U.S.

It's also a big blow for Toronto FC. Eight weeks means being out until July 9, which covers nine games includes two Amway Canadian Championship matches.

With the MLS taking a 10-day break during Copa America and the European Championship, Altidore would have missed fewer matches had he been healthy and away on national team duty.

The burly striker sat out the first two games of the season with a hamstring issue. He had yet to score in six games this season but had been praised by coach Greg Vanney for contributing in other ways.
