Your daily World Cup tip sheet for who's playing when, and what to watch for. We'll deliver a new briefing the evening before every game day, highlighting the can't-miss match and which players to watch.

Match of the day: Spain vs. Chile

It’s hard to believe, but the defending champions are facing a must-win situation in just the second match of the group stage. It will be fascinating to see how Spain responds to the 5-1 beating the Netherlands put on it in the Group B opener. Who does manager Vicente del Bosque start in goal after the Iker Casillas debacle? Is this the end of La Furia Roja’s long reign atop world soccer or does it have something left in the tank? Chile is no pushover; it plays a constant pressure game and forward Alexis Sanchez (Barcelona) and midfielder Arturo Vidal (Juventus) are world-class talents. They will try to run Spain right off the pitch.

Player to watch: Spain’s Pepe Reina

It’s difficult to imagine Casillas playing again in this tournament, and potential replacement David de Gea (Manchester United) is reportedly struggling with a leg injury. That leaves Reina, the long-time Liverpool goalkeeper who spent this club season on loan to Serie A side Napoli. A steady performance from the veteran would go a long way towards helping his teammates get their swagger back.
