Scott Ackles was promoted to president of the Calgary Stampeders on Wednesday.

Ackles, the son of B.C. Lions president Bob Ackles, spent last year as Calgary's vice-president of club operations.

The move wasn't a surprise as when managing partner Ted Hellard hired Scott Ackles in March 2007, it was with the intention of him taking over as president prior to the 2008 campaign.

"Scott will take on a number of roles and responsibilities associated with communication and decision making in our business model at the highest management levels," Hellard said in a statement. "He will become the public face of our organization on the business side, as (head coach-GM) John Hufnagel is on the football side."

The Stampeders also announced that Stan Schwartz will take over as executive vice-president of club operations. Schwartz is in his 20th year with the CFL club and had been the executive vice-president and consultant to the executive committee.

Veteran sports reporter Michael Petrie has also joined the Stampeders as their director of community and media relations.
